NCI NUTRITION COACH, NFPT CPT, CROSSFIT LEVEL 1, USAW SPORT PERFORMANCE COACH
What is your CrossFit story?
My husband worked a CrossFit gym and kept begging me to try it, but I just didn't think it looked appealing. It wasn't until he started his own CrossFit affiliate that I felt obligated to go just to support him and his new business. After day one I knew I was hooked. I don't know what my fear had been about trying CrossFit prior. Maybe I was a little nervous about being vulnerable in front of others. I had been physically inactive for almost 15 years prior to starting CrossFit and I was in pretty bad shape. I could hardly run or do an air squat. I was nervous about exercising alongside others in that state. But everyone couldn't have been more friendly, welcoming, and encouraging. This is what I would grow to love most about CrossFit.
A year into CrossFit I realized that my athletic accomplishments did not match what was happening to my body. Although I was seeing great results in my performance, my body was not reflecting this. It was then I decided to start working on my own nutrition. Within 6 moths I lost almost 40 pounds and over 10% body fat! And I was still accomplishing great things in the gym too! This is when I decided that I wanted to be a nutrition coach to help others achieve the same results, but also the same freedom I had found through diet and exercise!
What is your favorite part about coaching?
Seeing others start to view their bodies for what they are capable of rather than a number on the scale.
What's your favorite quote?
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.”
Any advice for beginners?
Don't compare yourself to anyone else! The only person you should be focused on being better than is yourself from yesterday.
